TRAGIC TURN/ ARCHITECTURE OF DISAPPEARANCE / FREE TIM YOUNG
Tim Young is a wrongfully convicted prisoner on California's death row. I am undertaking a collaborative project with him through UC Santa Cruz. These diaries document the process. Further information on Tim’s case can be found on https://www.timothyjamesyoung.com/
Tim’s cell at San Quentin measured 4.5’ x 10’. At scale 1:50 its volume is roughly equivalent to a medium sized hen’s egg. The interior of an egg would be a strange space to inhabit. No sense of floor, walls, up or down. Monotonous and scale-less, a sense of floating. Can shapes be happy or sad? I always thought the oval feels like a sad shape.

Boiling Eggs, Hebron City suburbs, West Bank - Free Tim Young
On Easter Sunday, Tim Young & Sofia Karim released Hail Mary. It included videos of boiling eggs sent by supporters from around the world. Including from Hebron, from a woman who describes their existence like this:
“I can't explain to anyone how we view the world today, how we preserve ourselves and appreciate the things around us. How we follow the news or hear and react to bombings. Yet, each time is different. We live and see. At the same time, if we have the opportunity to escape this reality, we live it to the fullest, celebrate small joys because there is no tomorrow, and remain as we are, the ones who were created from this land and to which we will return.” - 24/04/25, Hebron City suburbs, West Bank.
Updates: “Israel kills 45 in latest attacks on civilian shelters in Gaza.
“May the mirror's reflection cause you to pause, reflect.” TY, Hail Mary.

Images of eggs arrive from Rohingya Refugee camp, Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, in solidarity with Tim Young! Survivors of Myanmar’s genocide against Muslims, stand up for a prisoner on California’s death row. The photos were sent by Rohingya photographer Abul Kalam, who himself was previously jailed by the government of Bangladesh. Abul said the situation in the camps is very bad, so #ProtectTheEgg is currently taking steps to offer him and his fellow camp residents support.
Abolition Means No More War: FREE PALESTINE NOW!
“Prison industrial complex (PIC) abolitionists have always understood the work to dismantle the PIC to be connected to global movements against war, militarism, and colonialism. In the past few weeks, we’ve seen mass mobilization for solidarity with the Palestinian people as they face one of the deadliest assaults by the Israeli military in its history.” Critical Resistance, November 2023
